Enhances the air balance of HVAC systems and makes the Commissioning Easy

Permanently installed EBTRON’s airflow measurement solutions improve HVAC air balance and provide continuous value for TAB professionals and owners. As noted in ASHRAE Fundamentals and Standard 41.2, thermal dispersion technology offers higher accuracy starting at lower velocities than other technologies, such as pitot tube traverse or averaging arrays.

Unparalleled Accuracy & Stability

EBTRON is the only provider of a bead-in-glass hermetically sealed thermistor that is highly chemically resistant and individually aged. Each airflow sensing node is calibrated and serialized to a NIST traceable reference at up to 16 points. The transmitter is UL-listed and contains industrial-grade components mounted on a gold-plated PCB. This results in an HVAC system that is industry-leading in accuracy, with up to ±2% reading accuracy in airflow and ±0.15 °F [±0.08 °C] temperature, as well as long-term stability.

Enhanced Verification

EBTRON offers traverse and total airflow measurements even in locations inaccessible or limited in straight ducts. When the transmitter is networked, it provides airflow and temperature traverse, while the Gold Series also allows for Bluetooth connection. Using our free EB-Link app, you can instantly access total flow, traverse, and velocity-weighted temperature data, and when equipped with our humidity sensor, velocity-weighted enthalpy, relative humidity, and dewpoint.

Ongoing Validation

Continuous measurement of the total and traverse of temperature and airflow saves energy and time by maintaining operational efficiency, identifying degradation in performance, and scheduling preventative maintenance by identifying failures sooner. When equipped with a humidity sensor, airflow energy calculations can be performed when multiple airflow measurement solutions are used in various airstreams or across heat exchangers or energy recovery devices.

EBTRON Validates Real-Time Ventilation and Airflow Rates

Energy and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Standards and Codes require air balance and control in buildings. EBTRON airflow measurement stations (AFMS) are designed to provide traverse and total measurements in locations that are hard to access or limited in straight ducts. When networked, the transmitter will provide airflow and temperature traverse. The Gold series enables connection through Bluetooth. By using the free EB-Link app, you can instantly access total flow, traverse data, velocity-weighted temperature, and when equipped with an optional humidity sensor, velocity-weighted enthalpy, relative humidity, and dewpoint.

Air balance requirements and validation:

  • VAV and multispeed constant volume systems (supply fan airflow control) require dynamic outdoor air strategies to maintain and validate minimum ventilation requirements.
  • Demand Control Ventilation (DCV) must provide ventilation for the actual population and building area.
  • Occupied Standby Control shuts off ventilation to spaces and impacts supply fan airflow and outdoor air ventilation requirements.
  • Exhaust pressurization requires exhaust rates to be maintained higher than supply rates, obligating tracking of systems.
  • Building exfiltration requirements necessitate total outdoor intake to exceed the total exhaust under all dynamic load and reset conditions.
  • Return and relief fan control shall maintain building pressurization by working cooperatively with ventilation.
  • Economizers require fault detection and diagnostics (FDD), with limits on pressurization and the relief of excess air.
  • Tighter envelope requirements limit air leakage and emphasize mechanical system airflow control.
  • Natural ventilation is required to integrate with mechanical ventilation to ensure indoor IAQ under all dynamic conditions.
  • A CO2 sensor can only detect a specific level of dilution in the air and is unable to determine the source of the air or maintain optimal building and space pressurization. Moreover, it is a delayed indicator of occupancy and ventilation and cannot directly identify whether there is under-ventilation or over-ventilation.
